On November 6, during a combined K-8 chapel, students brought in 710 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child! In the past, the middle school students each brought in several of one item, then during their Bible classes, the students each had the opportunity to pack a box. At the elementary campus, students were to pack their boxes at home and bring them in. We collected usually about 600 boxes combined between the two campuses.
This year we tried something different. All students were to bring their already-filled boxes in from home and wear school-spirit clothes on collection day. The new ecUNITE hosted a competition for the class that brought in the most boxes, and the class that showed the most school spirit. These were treated to an ice cream float party.
All the shoeboxes were delivered to a drop site by the 5th grade class. On December 12, the entire 8th grade class will help at the Samaritan’s Purse packing facility in Aurora for a day. Students will make sure all boxes are filled and packed with appropriate items, then they will tape the boxes closed, and pack them into shipping boxes.
