The October 2017 Penny Wars were a HUGE SUCCESS! Students raised almost $300 more than last year for a grand total of $6,640! The funds raised by our students went to help Emmanne Christian School in Africa by providing desks, chairs, and school supplies. (www.emmanne.org)
If you are unfamiliar with the annual Penny Wars outreach, this is a 5th grade sponsored, K-8 classroom battle of loose change. As students bring in pennies, dollar bills or checks, those funds count in the positive toward their classroom’s total. Students may also bring in silver coins to put into the jars of other classrooms and sabotage their efforts to be the top collecting class. For example, Mrs. Steigleder’s 4th grade class was ahead at the midway point, but experienced a “Silver Slam” the next day. The fifth grade class as a whole donated the most this year followed by the 2nd grade and kindergarten classes donating more than $1200 each. Mrs. Baldwin’s class took the top class for the year with the least silver being docked.
Through the fun, as students competed with our fellow classmates, the students and teachers at Emmanne Christian School were blessed. This is one of the ways our Elementary students are taught about missions during the October Mission Month.
