My name is Jessica Alley and I am a kindergarten teacher. This is my sixth year teaching. Growing up, my dad was a pastor so I have lived in several small towns and cities in Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma. I graduated high school from Canton, Oklahoma then went to college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was in 1st grade. I would go home from school and play teacher almost every day when I was in elementary school. I loved all my teachers but my 5th-grade teacher had the biggest impact on me and that’s when I knew I wanted to teach so I could be more like her.
After graduating from college, I taught kindergarten for two years in Clinton, Oklahoma. When I started my second year in Clinton, my husband (boyfriend at the time) moved to Oklahoma City for his job. So, we dated long-distance for that year. I decided to move to Oklahoma City to be closer to Kris and finally get out of a small town. I taught 2nd grade at Rollingwood Elementary for two years and I absolutely loved it there. Kris and I got engaged during my first year at Rollingwood. The following year, we decided to build a house so it would be ready for us after we were married. Unfortunately, while we were in that process, the oil and gas industry started to fail and Kris lost his job. Thankfully, we didn’t close on the house so we didn’t lose anything. That’s when God started tugging at our hearts that it might be time to move to Colorado.
Kris is originally from Colorado and his family lives here. It was in our ten-year plan to move to Colorado but God had other plans. Kris and I got married on June 4, 2016 and then moved to Arvada three weeks later. I taught Pre-K last year in Westminster and I felt God calling me to FCA. This has been the best year of my career so far and I can honestly say this is where I belong. My husband and I love to go hiking and explore the mountains with our spoiled border collie, Oakley. We also love to try new restaurants and discover all the wonderful things around Denver. Moving to Colorado and getting the privilege to teach at FCA is the greatest blessing.
