The Speech and Debate team is right in the middle of its season this year. They started the season on October 3, hosting the first speech tournament of the year and welcoming 13 schools and over 170 competitors to the high school campus. To date, 25 students from FCHS have competed and won a total of 49 awards.
Sophomore MiKayla Martin has earned two 1st place awards in Original Oratory, and she leads the way for the Faith team through her example of dedication and excellence. Sophomore Garrett Rogers has accumulated five awards in Value Debate, including a first place that he earned at the Aspen meet, on October 17. Tyler Beeson, also a sophomore, rose to the top at the Battle Mountain Meet on November 7th, taking the first place prize for Impromptu Speaking. Additionally, he has won five awards in three different events. Senior Josh Marquardt continues to be a dominating force in Creative Storytelling, and has won four awards this season. Coaches Laura Eggers, Traci Powers, and Jonathan Lowry are excited to see the growth in the speech and debate team this season and look forward to gaining momentum as we head toward the state competition at Heritage High School on January 29 and 30.
