Thing 1 and Thing 2 were spotted in the FCES Library, Mrs. Frizzle was in the Magic School Bus parked outside, fur coats hung at the entrance to Narnia, tacos in the café, and even a museum in the Auditorium. The theme for the elementary school in January was Books, Books and More Books!!!
In January, our elementary students read for a total of 62,611 minutes and raised over $7000! The month ended with the big event on January 29. Overnight, our campus was wonderfully transformed, and each grade level visited themed rooms and spent the morning listening to stories, having snacks, playing games and lots of laughter resounding through the halls! Reading is fun and it came to life.
The Read-a-Thon is one of our largest volunteer events. There were over 115 parent volunteers who helped set-up the rooms on Thursday evening and then participated Friday morning. FCHS Honor Society students were also an integral part of the morning. They dressed up in costumes, read stories and interacted with our elementary students. We are so blessed that this exceptional group of students would take time away from their classes to participate!
In addition to the Read-a-thon, there were also 21 volunteers that helped at the Book Fair. The proceeds from the $11,352 in sales, will be used for the purchase of new SMART boards. Wow!!! We are truly blessed.
